Hazzaa Al Mansoorihas become the first Emirati astronaut to venture into space.

His trip is being hailed as a positive sign for the UAE’s growing space sector.

“This mission is a great milestone for me personally and for the United Arab Emirates,” Hazzaa said at a news conference.
The Emirates star's exploration plans include an unmanned mission to Mars, with hopes of reaching the red planet in 2021 to coincide with the 50th anniversary of the founding of the state.

The installation Ad Astra wants to celebrate this achievement and allow the visitors to poetically revive the experience Hazzaa had during his journey in space.

The art piece is a walkable environment where a parametrically designed amount of “stars” float mid-air, refracting the light coming from above and giving the illusion of lightness and suspension in space.

Mirrors on the walls amplify the perception of the room, creating a visually infinite space.
